   Purchased as a preventative measuret due to coworker having battery issues a few weeks ago. Turns out my cars battery was dead yesterday. It was is the cars for weeks was charged once when purchased. This was at 71% and dropped to 65%. This jumped the car just fine and east to use. Doubles as a battery pack and flash light. I’ve used it as a battery pack but can’t use USB C to charge devices so make sure you have the appropriate cable for phone.

   I’ve had several of these little jump boxes and although this performs I’m kind of picky about the certain details of them. I really like how this one has enough power to jump start a diesel truck. Which not all of them do. The only complaint I guess that I have is that when you go to jump your vehicle there’s no button or switch that says go ahead and jump start. You just have to plug in the cables and hook them to the car but if it doesn’t start the first time, you have to unhook the cables and pull him out of the box then put them back in and do it again. I don’t like having to do that. I like just being able to push the button again and go ahead and try to start the car. So that’s not such a huge thing. It’s probably more of a personal preference, but I like what I like.

   A few years ago, I was having some battery issues with my 800 CCA battery on my (well-aged) 2007 GMC Envoy (I6). The battery was a decade old, likely very sulfated, and “it was time/RIP”. At the time, after the first fail, I charged the battery overnight with an AC battery charger…and promptly ordered a 1000A 12000mAh jump starter to give me a little backup/time while the battery was “dying” to try de-sulfating the battery, shop around for a new battery, and also rule-out the alternator or an electric drain as the fault. Within the week, the old battery would not hold a charge at all. By then, I had the jump-starter, which I used in three different parking lots within the hour it took me to run some errands, including buying a new car battery. That jump-starter paid for itself on that day. I’ve used that device to jump strangers’ vehicles four times since (once coincidentally two days ago before I ordered this one). I also used it a few weeks ago. I got in my SUV to go to the store…no power, not even ACC power, the battery was flat dead. I quickly jumped my SUV with that charger and ran my errand. The SUV started fine after that first jump start (alternator recharge), and I charged/ “topped-off” my car battery with the car battery charger when I got back home. I thought that I’d have to replace my car battery again as it’s been a few years, but I haven’t had any issues since. Sometimes the magnetic door switch doesn’t shut my ACC power off…I normally catch it…but perhaps not that time. Not sure what caused the drain that time, but no issues since. I order this one because I plan to give my old one to a family member, this one was offered through Vine (for tax and review), and while they are generally “precautionary”, I know how very useful these are when you need them, or others. Also, like all batteries, the lithium batteries in these jump-starters lose capacity over time (though I’m savvy enough to re-solder some new batteries in one of these if I need to). Though, after a few years my original one still works, as proven twice in the past month. The 800 CCA replacement car battery that I bought a few years ago is still working well so I really don’t have a ready way to test this one. The electronic protections in these require a low battery with a minimal charge (~9 volts) to work. But at initial glance, this seems as good as my other one, again with more power. Other considerations: – This one has twice the current and charge capacity of my other one (that again still works years later). So I have near total confidence that this will start my 6 cylinder SUV, or another’s truck. Based on my experience, at some point in the next year I will have to use this on my or another’s vehicle. I’ll update this review with confirmation when I do. (I suppose that I could disconnect my SUV battery and trip the circuit protection in this with a 9V battery. But I don’t recommend doing this…at least without eye protection (:D). Eh, there is also a questionable risk to my SUV electronics…but I’ll also update this review if I do…eyesight intact of course. – I sometime camp in remote areas where it’s very unlikely that someone will drive by to give me a “jump”, but even in urban areas these are just faster and easier than a Samaritan with cables. Plus Ohio has freezing winters when batteries perform-less-optimally/often-fail. And while a good Samaritan is eventually likely to stop by to assist with my dead battery, this is faster and more reliable. – The lithium batteries in these hold a charge for a long time. Lithium batteries are “happiest” at 70-80% charge for long-term storage (i.e. in your car trunk). But I recharge (/100%-top-off) mine in the spring (for summer/remote camping) and also in the fall/autumn (for winter cold/battery depletion). The point of this comment is that you have to occasionally check/charge these to ensure that they’re charged when you need them. – These double as a “USB power bank” for cell phones, radios, etc. Certainly and additionally useful for, but I wouldn’t deplete this less than ~60% to ensure charge for a jump-start. – And is has a light. I keep a flashlight in my SUV, and my tire inflator also has a (car battery powered) light. That this can also be used as a flashlight to illuminate tires, engines, and “spookies” on the side of a dark road is an expected and appreciated inclusion. – The case for this one is plastic, and seems durable enough to throw around in the back of a truck. Bottom Line: I can’t say whether this one is better than any other. This one has twice the charge and capacity over the one that that has gotten me and others “back going quickly” several times in the past few years. So whether for me (mostly) or to help others, I’m sold that these are a valuable addition to the “car kit”. Jumper cables work, but these are faster, easier, and don’t require a Samaritan (In a hurry in the parking lot, or in a remote area…or risk to my vehicle’s electronics when helping others). In my experience, you or others are likely to need it more often than expected…cars, boats, or 4-wheelers.
