   This is my second small jump starter. I like this one due to its simplicity. You just hook it to the battery and go start the car. I was able to test it on a “tired” car battery, and I could tell that the engine turned over faster with this hooked up. As with any of these small boosters, it isn’t made for a totally dead battery. The instructions indicate that the battery should be at least 50% to use this booster. This one is perfect for the run into the grocery store with the headlights on, or the vanity light left on all day while at work. It also has a flashlight with optional flasher mode for emergencies, as well as an LCD that displays the current charge of the unit. It includes a handy hard-sided zippered box for storage. Good first impressions, but I’ll stay with 4 stars until a real use-case.

   The DINKALEN Portable Car Battery Charger Jump Starter provides peace of mind for drivers concerned about being stuck due to a dead or under-charged battery. I consider this a basic Jump Starter that doesn’t include some of the bells and whistles of other similar devices. You get the battery unit, the battery cables/clamps, a standard USB-A to USB-C charging cable, an instruction manual and a basic case. A USB charger, 12V output and other niceties are not included. The label on the bottom of the unit says it contains a 12,800mAh, 47.3WH battery. That’s slightly less capacity than a jump starter I’ve previously owned. Mine arrived indicating an 80% battery level so out of the box, it should be able to jump start a car. Connecting it to a 2.1A charger topped off the battery quickly. I haven’t had the need to jump start anything yet but it appears to be working. There is a small button on the cables/clamps plug that needs to be pressed if the dead battery is below a voltage threshold and the safeties need to be overridden. A nice feature is the ability to use this as a power bank. I used this with a USB powered device that I needed to move around for a few hours and the LCD reading only dropped to 96%. I can see myself using it to charge a variety of devices while outside or on the go. Just have to make sure enough charge is left to start a car if needed. The instruction manual is small and the English section is 10 pages. The case is pretty basic with a padded section to hold the battery and an open mesh section for the cables. Because the mesh section doesn’t close, I haven’t found the exact orientation to keep the cables from falling out when the case is opened.
