   This works so nice and has long wire leads with nice strong clips. Lawn mower batteries have tendency to die when you need them most. Just keep this hooked up when you are not using your mower etc. and your problems will be solved.
   When your battery is fully charged it cuts off, and you won’t be using unnecessary power. Love it!

   I am fortunate enough to maintain two houses – one in the mid-West for the summer and a second one in the Palm Springs area for the winter. Rather than drive 1500 miles each way I have a couple of cars in each location so each set will sit idle for six months of the year which means I usually have two dead batteries when I arrive for the season. I tried a cheaper brand of trickle charger in the desert last year and it worked but I was afraid that if it burned out I would still return to dead batteries. I really like the quality of the Schumacher products having two of their multifunction battery chargers that have worked well for over 10 years. When I saw that they offered high quality trickle chargers I bought two of them to make the switch to worry free charging. The chargers are well built and heavy for their size and the build quality is typical Schumacher. The chargers are intended to be installed in the engine compartment with battery connections that are permanently connected to the charger and for power a short plug comes out of the side of the unit and is easily connected to a grounded extension cord. I really didn’t want to install these under the hood even though they supply the mounting brackets and screws required but I did like the idea of the permanent connection to the battery as opposed to a clamp which could fall off in the middle of the season and leave me with a dead battery. Remembering how the chargers connected in the Power Wheels toys my sons had several years ago, I was able to find polarity keyed plug connectors in the trailer wiring section of the local auto parts store and now have a short pigtail permanently connected to the battery and the ability to plug and unplug it into the charger when I want. Now I have the best of all worlds, the security of a solid connection to the battery and the flexibility of being able to plug and unplug the charger with ease. I like this a lot.

   I bought this to save and extend the life of the battery in my pickup truck. I live just outside of a very small town,about a mile and a half.A trip to town,a couple of stop(Post Office,grocery store,gas station)and back home,and I’ve started the engine three or four time and only put on as many miles.Not enough engine running time to re-charge the battery.After many times of not being able to start my truck and having to use a booster charger to start the truck,I finally needed a new battery.I hope this little charger will prevent this from happening again.(I will update if it fails).My only beef is the short power cord.I needed to buy a short heavy duty extension cord so as to be able to plug it in without having to open the hood each time. UPDATE: I purchased this in March of 2013 and installed. The battery was purchased January 4, 2013. Today’s date, January 20, 2022 and my truck is still on that same battery.

   This is such an important part of my winter car care. I hooked it up in under 15 minutes and it works great. The battery is fully charged when I don’t drive the car very much and because it is so small and easy to tuck under the hood, it is not in the way. I thought the cord it comes with might be too short but not the case for my Mazda 6 as it reaches and I hang about 6″ out of the hood and plug it into an extension into the outlet. When you consider the cost of a good battery over $100 this is a very economical way to charge the battery without the nuisance of removing it from the car and plugging in a trickle charger. Because it is on board there is nothing to do but plug it into the outlet. I really recommend it and the quality and reviews all confirm what I am finding after three months of use.

   This is very useful not expensive and easy to use. I don’t drive my truck much.then one winter day I went to use it and it would not start. So I bought the Schumacher 800mah Battery maintainer sc1299. Hooked it up to my battery left it alone for a day. Went out and turned the key and it started. So I highly recommend this battery maintainer. It payed for itself using it one time.

    Not sure what all the negative comments about cord length are. Maybe an older version? I got the SC1299 august 2024 and the cord is stupidly long. It’s 11ft. More than enough.

    I have used battery tender brand, NAPA and Nocos. Battery tenders are great, but ridiculous expensive IMO. NAPAs are good but my experience is only with larger chargers and not maintainers. Nocos are nice but kind of pricey. Enter this. It’s easier to use than anything else I have used as you just hook it up and walk away. No setting battery type, amps, etc. It does all the work. A simple LED light to tell you what is going on. If you are familiar with the Noco 1 it’s much bigger than that but you don’t have to set anything.

    CONS? When it is in float mode the LED light is off. So how do you know it’s plugged in and working? You don’t. So if you need a status LED like 99% of chargers and maintainers have? Look elsewhere.

    1A desulfator / trickle charger(s) stay connected to my generator, lawn tractor and spare 6/12V batteries in my shed all winter. I have one spare 12V tractor battery that’s 5 years old – and an even older one I was able to bring back to life by cleaning out with baking soda/distilled water & hooking up to one of these inexpensive & great quality units.

    Yes, it has the same plug as the old Schumacher. The alligator clips just plug in as an added accessory. If you already have the pigtail connected to your battery, it mates right up Only negative is that when the battery is fully charged, there is no light. So walking past it, there’s no way to be sure it’s working vs dead

    This. Floating charger works well. 2 downsides: low power = slow charging. Male plug incorporated into transformer is awkward in some illustrations. Cheap, but good quality.
